How can it possibly be the last day of February?
Things seem to be whirling & twirling....
For those of you joining in The J.O.Y. Experiment this is our monthly study on the names of Jesus & our March scripture memory.
CHRIST THE LORD
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior who is Christ the Lord.
Luke 2:11
This announcement from the skies identified Jesus not only our savior, but also as Christ the Lord. The name Christ the Lord declares that He is from God & belongs to God. The title also addresses His status in similar ways that we address earthly leaders. And, it tells us that He is not only from God, but He IS God.
What does it mean to be Lord?
Lord is defined as someone or something having power, authority, or influence; a master or ruler.
When we declare Christ as Lord, we are saying that He has authority over us.
Authority over our thoughts, words, and actions.
WOW!
Remember the story of Lazarus?
Word was sent to Jesus about Lazarus illness...begging him to come.
Jesus waited three days.
As Jesus was approaching the town, Martha, Lazarus' sister, met him on the road.
I can see Martha heading Jesus off...broken over her brother's death...
This is how it goes down in John 11 in the King James version
(I get a little giggle of thinking of Martha & Jesus speaking in King James English...it seems fitting for stuffy ol' Martha....bless her heart.)
20 Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.
21 Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
22 But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.
23 Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.
24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
27 She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.
It struck me...we don't give Martha enough credit. We always seem to fixate on the story of her & her sister...where Jesus gently reprimands her.
But, here...in this moment....Martha shows what she's made of.
And, someday, my friends, ALL will proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord.
Philippians 2:10-11
New Living Translation (NLT)
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
So, this month....let's make Him Lord over ALL.
ALL our thoughts.
ALL our words.
ALL our actions.
