What I Wore Wednesday :: July 27 Edition

Hellooooo, Wednesday!
Time for a little What I Wore...

Getting ready to Rascal Flatts this Friday with #mykcsquad!
Add to bust out some denim to start feeling that country vibe.
I love this chambray dress.

More chambray & a FUN skirt!
This may be on repeat for the concert...
we'll just have to see how I'm feelin'.

It's been HOTT in Kansas City...
have a mentioned that?
So, a little Tommy Hilfiger sundress is perfect
& a little cardi because my office is like the arctic.

I love this Knox Rose tank from Target...
paired with some boyfriend jeans & Betsey Johnson booties...
it just makes my boho heart sing.

Some days, I do actually have to dress up for work.
I love this dress from Target.
The red heels make the outfit POP!

Finally pulled out this Who What Wear dress from Target...
still had the tags on...I, of course, picked it up on clearance.
What fun colors!
And, it is perfect for these hot summer days.

And, last but not least...
another Who What Wear piece from Target...
paired with some skinnies & snakeskin heels that were thrifted from Goodwill.
My necklace is from my friend, Stacey.
Does she know me or what???

There ya have it...
a quick What I Wore Wednesday!

Hope it's a GREAT one!

Not So Manic Monday :: Buzz Beach Ball

It's been a BIG summer for this kid!

He played Buzz Beach Ball
with
Brave The Spirit
a couple of weekends ago.

Hannah received McQuiston's
only other backstage pass
&
captured all the goodness for me.
Mac & Michael arriving
at Children's Mercy Park
where Sporting KC play soccer
(if you don't happen to be from the KC area).

Hannah is pretty excited about the day too!

Getting ready for the show...

Just chilling during sound check....

Brave the Spirit doing their thing....

Great shot from 96.5 The Buzz...
the radio station that put on the event.

And, our very own real ROCK STAR!

Such an amazing experience for a kid that hadn't yet turned 20!
Excited to see what the future holds for him....

He played a bit of a smaller venue this weekend...
Californos in Westport.

He & Michael played with The Yotes this weekend.
And, y'all....this is how you know your mama loves you...
when it's still 90 degrees outside at night
AND
you don't go on until 11:30pm.
UGH.
I'm too old for this.

One very hot & tired mama
AND
one amazingly talented son.

Stay tuned to hear about the neat things McQuiston has in the works...

Fri-YAY Fitness :: Meal Prep

Am I right?
Or, am I right?

Do you follow @radandhappy on IG?
I love her handlettering & she is always cracking me up
with her posts.

So, it's Fri-YAY Fitness...
and, I thought I would share a little about
MEAL PREP.
I have found it ESSENTIAL
in being successful
on the
DANIEL PLAN.
I meal prep on Sunday afternoons...
it sets the tone for the whole week &
keeps me in the right mindset.

My breakfast on the weekends is plain Greek yogurt, fresh fruit,
and organic granola.
I just make sure that the granola I pick up
doesn't have sugar in the ingredients.

My fridge after meal prep.

I bake chicken breasts for lunch.

Make up a few cups of quinoa.

Roast some veggies...
this week was summer squash
& zucchini.

Cut up some fresh veggies for salads.

And, make my steel cut oatmeal for the week.
I under cook it by a bit & leave it a bit runny.
It sets in the fridge.
I heat up an individual container of oatmeal each morning
for about a minute & 45 seconds.
Add some fresh fruit & raw organic honey.
YUM!
And, trust me...it fills you up!

Weekday evening dinners.....

Each day I send my bestie a selfie after I do my workout....
lucky her!
But, it keeps me honest.
You can tell how thrilled I am some days.

But, there is never I day that I'm sorry that I went.

After three weeks on the plan, I feel like I'm getting my groove back.
My skin is clearer.
My mind is more focused.
I feel more in control.

If you've got questions about the Daniel Plan, feel free to leave them in the comments or shoot me an email!
Thanks for following along with my journey. (again for some of you)
It's gonna be a good one.

Enjoy your weekend!

Thriftalicious Thursday :: Thrifted Finds In My Home//The Master Bedroom

Is it REALLY Thursday??
Where has this week gone?

I thought I would share with you some of my favorite thrifted finds
throughout my house.  Of course, with it being "event season"
at my full time gig as a non-profit director...
I didn't take pictures until late in the evening.
I discovered two things...
LIGHTING MATTERS
and
I am NOT a photographer.
I readily admit that I do NOT have the "eye" with the camera.
Maybe a photography course is in my future.

So, forgive my ineptitude with a camera, and
just admire my finds from the Goodwill.

I thought we would start in my bedroom this week...

All the plates above my bed are thrift finds from Goodwill.
I purchased the mirror at Target on clearance & one day
decided to take the plate from the center of the arrangement
and replace it with the mirror.
I like it.
It's unexpected and fills in the space.
The whole arrangement came in under $25!

The mirror tray, the glass vase & the books were all thrifted.
I love trays.
They are perfect for groupings.
And, make things look tidy.
I dig that.
I grab vintage books wherever I can find them for cheap!
This lamp was too short for the items arranged around it.
By placing it on top of a couple of books...
it becomes just the right height.
Glass vases are in abundance at the Goodwill.
I like to buy ones with more unusual shapes.
I filled this one with shells I collected on a trip to the Gulf Coast.

This is a thrifted frame.
I shared a little about it on Tuesday on the blog.
And, I created the glass stand by gluing a candlestick
& plate together that I thrifted.  I picked up the cloche while I was out thrifting too.
If you can't tell....I have a thing for cuffs!
I am a lover of words.
And, the cuffs let me wear things that are meaningful to me.
I showcase them in an old wooden cash register drawer.
I actually did a dumpster dive for this one.
I'm not to proud to grab someone's trash & make it my treasure.
I gave it a coat of cream paint so the cuffs really
POPPED!
And, don't y'all just love the Target Dollar Spot???
I picked up several of these fake succulents this past spring for $3 a piece.
And, I can't kill them.
Because I can't take pictures & I can't keep plants alive.

See, AWFUL lighting.
I picked up the shelf at Goodwill & gave it a coat of paint.
The little water colors I found at Bella Patina in the West Bottoms.
I love water colors!
They might be my favorite paint medium.
While not a thrift find, I did grab the bird hook on clearance.
I hung a basket from it.
It houses all my charging cords & a couple of books.
Keeps some of the clutter off my nightstand.
I first came up with the idea in my last house when my room arrangement
didn't allow for a nightstand on one side of the bed.
So, the basket held what I needed instead.
Pretty slick.

The wreath if from the talented Anna (@feltit on IG).
She makes the most amazing creations.
I was lucky enough to purchase a few of her wreaths through
an instasale.  I gave a couple away for gifts, but couldn't part with this one.
The wall art is all Hobby Lobby clearance.or was purchased with
the 40 % off coupon.  Cuz if you buy anything at HL at full price...
you are a little nutso.
Just WALK ON BY if it isn't on sale or you already used your coupon,
because I guarantee...it will be on sale next week.
Am I right?

So, there ya have it...
Thriftalicious Thursday.
Make it TERRIFIC!

What I Wore Wednesday :: July 20 Edition

It's Wednesday...
and YES & AMEN!

I decided to get myself out of my slump of my outfits on repeat
& play along with #hautechristmasinjuly on Instagram.
I use these style prompts when I get in a funk
& it helps me pull out the things in my closet that I haven't been wearing.
Sometimes, I fall in love with it again.
Sometimes, I realize it's time to "Let It Go"
(you're welcome...now that song is stuck in your head, too.)

This get up if for Monochromatic Fanatic...
I picked up the dress ages ago at #thewalmarts when
I succeeded in dumping an entire cup of coffee on myself
in the car before a meeting...WalMart was the closest store...
and I grabbed this dress.  Later on, I decided it was a keeper...
I ditched the the little tie belt it came with & paired it with a wide leather belt.
I added a Gap 1969 denim jacket that I just picked up at Goodwill & some Guess wedges.

It's HOT Cocoa...
a great pair of Talbots jeans from the thrift store, Old Navy boyfriend tee that reminds
me of hot cocoa, an off white blazer from GOODWILL, and a fun pair of heels from Ross.
I made the necklaces.  There is something very therapeutic about stringing
those tiny beads.  The bracelets are from WalMart & the earrings are from Target.

Champagne & Cognac
I love the Knox Rose line at Target...it speaks to my inner Boho vibe.
The cropped pants are thrifted, and the fantastic sandals are Chinese Laundry...
I picked them up at Ross for a steal!

White Christmas...
I'll let you in on a little secret...
I love tunics.
Do you know my go-to for tunics?
Swimsuit cover ups!
Just like the one above...
Target skinnies, a statement piece from HMK,
and glittery sandals by Chinese Laundry from Marshalls.

u

Black Friday...
It is HOTT in KC.
HOT with two Ts.
So, a tank tunic & flowy pants are definitely in order!

Express YoursELF
Red tunic, white sweater thrifted from the Goodwill, jeans, some great jewelry from H&M.
I love this sandals...they were a thrift find too!

I love boho & western...I combined my two favorite loves here (& disguised my gym hair)
to meet my friend for an impromptu girls night.

A fun little dress I picked up on Target clearance.
Jean jacket because it's like the Arctic tundra in my office.
And, some Betsey Johnson readers...
because apparently I'm blind now.

The picture below let's ya know that sometimes it's just a matter of comfort
& some "personal style".

Make it a wonderful Wednesday!
If you want to play along.....
send me a pic of your #OOTD and the details
at zhushkc@gmail.com.

Teachable Tuesday :: It's In The Books

I'm a reader.
I was raised by a reader.
And, I might silently judge you
if you tell me that you aren't
a reader.

So, I thought I would share with you a few of the books I have just finished up.
I should tell you....
I am NEVER without a book.
I have one in my car (just in case).
I have one on my nightstand.
And, I usually have one tucked away in our living room.

I just finished The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah on my way back from Chicago.
It was fabulous.
If you love historical fiction, read it!

And, I cried as I turned the last page of Maeve Binchy's collection
of short stories knowing that it would be her last.
I feel as if I have lost a kindred spirit.

BJ Novak's collection of short stories are hysterical.
I love Mindy Kaling & am a HUGE fan of The Office, so
I figured I couldn't go wrong when I picked up his book

The Secret of Midwives surprised me...
I really loved it & how it wove the lives
of three strong women together.

The Things We Keep & The Good Luck of Right Now
were good reads....
just not my favorites.

You Are A Bad Ass was excellent...
a definite KICK in my backside.
And, Disconnected Kids is written by the man
who started Brain Balance.
It was definitely beneficial if you have a child
with ADD or ADHD.

If you have a book that you think I should add to my list, PLEASE
tell me in the comments!
I love getting book suggestions!

I'm halfway through Ordinary Grace by
William Kent Krueger.
I haven't made up my mind about it yet.
It isn't one I have a problem putting down, but
the storyline is intriguing.

This frame is a thrift find...
I popped in a chalkboard I painted &
wrote myself this note on my birthday
January 2nd of this year.
I turned 45.
I was struck at that time with the realization
that most likely my life is
1/2 OVER.
I decided to remind myself of that....
SO
that I live the second half of my life
BETTER
than the first.

Finally, I am a HUGE fan of Young Living essential oils
(don't worry, I don't sell them...BUT, I know someone who does if you need to order).
The past couple of weeks I have been diffusing RELEASE
when I go to sleep. I switched it up from my go-to LAVENDER,
and I am finding some amazing benefits from the change.

Don't forget to let me know what you're reading!
I feel a run to Half Price Books in my future.

Totally make Tuesday
AWESOME!
