Hey there...did that title get your attention?? I'll explain later.
I have a kiddo who LOVES, LOVES, LOVES hot wings. So, when I found this recipe...I knew I had to make it. Let's go shopping!
Shopping List:
1 2.5 lb deli-roasted chicken
2 Tbsp of butter
1/2 cup of chopped celery
1/2 cup of chopped onion
28 oz of chicken broth (if you've been making your own...use it!)
1 1/2 cups of milk
1 tsp of bottled hot pepper sauce (I used Frank's Buffalo...and, I used about 1/4 cup)
1 1/2 cups of mozzarella
1 1/4 cup of crumbled blue cheese
1/2 cup of shredded blue cheese
1/3 cup of all-purpose flour
More hot pepper sauce
In a pan, melt butter. Add celery & onion (I added some minced garlic too) & cook until onion is tender. In a pot, add broth, milk, and sauce. Add cooked onions & celery.
In a bowl, toss together mozzarella, 1 cup of the blue cheese, Parmesan, and flour.
Add gradually to soup, stirring after each addition until just melted.
Stir in the chicken. Heat through.
Serve with some chopped celery, remaining blue cheese, & hot sauce (for the garnish, I did use regular hot sauce...yum!)
And, now to the Chicken Droppings. On Sunday, November 24th, our family had the privilege to "drop" over 500 frozen chickens to families who might have needed a little extra help these holidays. We bundled up and headed out to 4 apartment complexes within walking distance of our church. The apartment managers had been notified. We knocked on doors. We handed out chickens. No elaborate message. No tracts. Just "Here's a chicken & Jesus loves you."
The Gunny & I, and those cute boys were as frozen as the turkeys. However, our hearts were warm as we were able to serve our community in a small way.
Over the past several years this thought has been knocking around in my brain.
What would the church look like if we left the four walls?
I think it would look a little something like this. I'm privilege to attend a church whose mission is to live outside their walls.
This holiday season, I challenge you....to leave the safety of your four walls. Get out into your community. Love them. Help meet their needs...both physical & spiritual.
It's amazing to see what grows with a few chicken "droppings".
